Managing product units of measure
Units of measure define how product quantities are recorded in Spendive, for example Each, Kilogram, Litre, Box, or Pack. Select the correct unit before a product is used in inventory transactions.
Who can do this
You need permission to manage Inventory products and units. If Add Unit is not visible, ask your Spendive administrator to review your role.
Review existing units
1. Sign in to the Spendive admin workspace.
2. Open Inventory, then Products.
3. Select the Units tab.
4. Use Search to check whether the required unit already exists.
5. Review each unit's Name, Symbol, Type, and Created on date.
Add a unit
1. On the Units tab, select Add Unit.
2. Enter the Name, for example Kilograms or Cartons.
3. Enter the Symbol, for example kg or ctn.
4. Review the spelling and symbol, then select Create.
Use the unit on a product
When creating or editing a product, select the unit in the Unit of Measure field under Basic Information. Quantities for stock, adjustments, and transfers will be interpreted using that unit.
Good practice
- Reuse a default unit when it already matches the product.
- Use clear names and familiar symbols.
- Avoid creating duplicate units that differ only by spelling or capitalisation.
- Decide whether a product is counted individually or in a pack before stock is recorded.
- Do not change a product's unit casually after inventory activity has started; the same number may represent a different physical quantity.
Troubleshooting
- Add Unit is missing: confirm that your role can manage inventory setup.
- Create is disabled: enter the required Name; add a Symbol where your convention requires one.
- Unit does not appear on the product form: refresh the product form and confirm the unit was created successfully.
- Duplicate unit found: use the existing unit instead of creating another variation.
